GIP.

Well, mostly. today has been an absolutely normal day, except for various weird run-ins with gender issues stuff. There's article from [livejournal.com profile] sanunreadissue, an argument I'm embroiled in on the DevART forums about Dave Sims and how he is *not* the best source to cite in discussions on feminism, and a long discussion today in Italian about how crazy sexist the country still is.

Oddments.

P.S. Isn't Italy the country where they tried to pass a law saying it as physically impossible to rape a woman wearing jeans?

citing Dave Sims on feminism is like citing Strom Thurmond on race relations or Dick Cheney on poverty relief.

Well said. Dave Sim is teh crazy. I mean, woot for self-publishing 300 issues but wow did the breakup of his marriage leave him a bitter, bitter, bitter man man.

I haven't any idea, but I know they were at least debating one that said that raping a irgin was worse than 'normal' rape.

She was citing the "mothers and Daughters" arc of Cerberus as a good report on feminism.

My brain promptly went splode.

"actually, i'm not conservative at all and i dislike feminism (not feminists themselves...it's not like i've met every single one) intensely. check out the "mothers and daughters" arc of dave sim's Cerebus book for one of the best dissections of the issue."

ARGH

At least she wasn't quoting from "Form and Void".

Cerebus was a fantastic book for a while... and had moments of sheer brilliance even after Sim went downhill... but when Sim snapped... yeah, it went WAY off the tracks.

What that article describes is disgusting. Jury of one's peers, anyone? Feh.

I was pretty fucking sickened, myself. I'm trying to find other sources to see what kind of bias the article gave, but I don't think there are too many ways that can be spun-- it's s hitty story of injustice no matter how you look at it.

I weep for the state of humanity sometimes.
