Smooth opals clicking on my teeth
They do not think themselves so lurid
But I disagree
They could topple my belief
in girded speech, hesitantly
presented theories, stunned breath.
Like all noble currency
Birds have such fondness
for wealth, for gems
I wish they would thieve
These social beads
My jaw has grown weak
