Podcasts!

Since coming over here I have discovered just how much I love Podcasts. When I'm feeling lonely or distant, they really help me feel a little more connected. That being said, there's only two I regularly listen to-- A Prairie Home Companion and This American Life. Does anyone have any reccomendations for good Podcasts? I'm looking for good ones about magic, science, games, music . . . pretty much anything you think would entertain me. What do *you* listen to?

I'm doing better today. I'm pretty sure I need to back off myself and stop trying to shove square pegs through round holes. It works much better when you work at making the holes square, as well. In other words, I need to stop waking up every morning and going "Ok, great, you got here! Now be a great artist RIGHT NOW/be a great cook RIGHT NOW/clean up after yourself perfectly and fix all of your domestic issues RIGHT NOW/be thin and healthy RIGHT NOW. Push push push! No rest, no break, no commendations-- you need to keep pushing at yourself, all of the time!"

Whether it makes any sense for me to do that or not, I do. I shouldn't, either . . . it's going to burn my out in all sorts of ways if I do. How can I appreciate that OMG I MADE IT if I dismiss the accomplishment as 'meh, ok, what's next?'

Live in the moment, chill the fuck out.

Escape Pod, Pseudopod, and Podcastle are a trio of fiction podcasts (for SF, horror, and fantasy, respectively). Might be worth checking out.

Thanks! I got Pseudopod, but Podcastle seems mysteriously absent.

Podcastle may not be live yet; it's their most recent spinoff. (Prior to this, Escape Pod was for both SF and fantasy.)

Escape Pod is actually quite good as well. I don't listen to Pseudopod yet, and Podcastle isn't out yet.

If you like food, "The Splendid Table" is always v. interesting. I also love Studio 360.

Hey! There's an Avery!

Democracy Now is my very favorite news podcast. You might find Inside Europe to be useful, and it is only weekly, so it is easier to keep up with.

I'm also a fan of the "back issues" of Snapecast, but that's just because I'm a raging Snape fan.

Second that. The Viking Youth are really quite interesting. Sometimes a little dense, but I have respect for any group that drinks while recording their podcasts.

I listen to Mugglecast... Harry Potter stuff. It's totally my fave. I used to listen to some others, but I can't remember what they are now... *shrug*

OK. I've posted about this before, and you should look here (http://kniedzw.livejournal.com/128806.html) for my suggestions.

That said, I think you'd either really like or really dislike NPR's All Songs Considered. They have a true hodgepodge of music (running from pop to jazz to classical to techno to rock), but some of it is really frickin' amazing, and a lot of the new music I get is due to that podcast.

Just saw a preview on Nickolodeon for the new Season of Avatar! It looks pretty sweet.
